Batman Day

In Detective Comics May 1939 issue a legend was born. Arguably the best superhero ever, The Batman. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger Bruce Wayne is a billionaire playboy industrialist by day and crime fighter by night. When Bruce was only a child his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne were killed in front of his eyes. After witnessing this tragedy Bruce decided he should train his body and mind to become an expert in martial arts, and a brilliant detective. After Batman's debut the public fell in love with this darker hero.

Batman is one of my favourite fictional characters of all time, he has been portrayed in a wide variety of media from comics to TV and movies and even radio plays. Below I am going to list five of my choices for best animated Batman films from the DC Animated Original Movies

1. Superman / Batman Public Enemies

Lex Luther has been voted President of United States during a severe economic depression, During his term the economy begins to thrive. Although most people trust Lex in his term as President Superman and Batman have their doubts. Knowing this Luthor pins a murder on Superman and Batman and declare them Public Enemies *roll titles* number 1 and 2.

2. Justice League : Doom

This story is based upon the popular story arc Tower of Babel in which Batman's contingency plans to neutralize the Justice League are stolen and used against the team. It is up to Batman and Cyborg to save the team from their certain Doom as Vandal Savage plans on destroying the Earth while the Justice League is incapacitated.

3. Son of Batman

We meet Bruce's child Damian in this exciting story. Damian has been raised since birth by his mother Talia al Ghul, daughter or Ra's al Ghul one of Batman's most dangerous adversaries and the leader of the League of Assassins. After an attack by Deathstroke Damian is then sent to meet his father and stay with him. What ensues is a wonderfully awkward mess which brings Damian and Bruce closer and Damian adopts the mantle of Robin much to the dismay of Dick Grayson / Nightwing.

4. The Dark Night Returns Pt 1 & 2

This is one of Batman's most famous story lines. Frank Miller's take on the future of Batman and Gotham. Batman is forced to retire after the death of the second Robin / Jason Todd. But after ten years Gotham has become overrun with criminals. Some of Batman's most notable villains have stopped their career's because without the Bat, it just wasn't the same. After an incident brings Bruce out of retirement the US government recruits Superman to stop him by any means necessary. The ensuing fight is one that has to be seen.

5. Under The Red Hood

Batman must come face to face with one of his biggest failures since assuming the mantle of the Batman. The mysterious Red Hood comes to Gotham and in a brutal fashion starts to clean up the streets, eliminating anyone who doesn't agree with his agenda. Batman must face his past demons to stop the Red Hood. This is by far my favourite of the animated movies because of Red Hood himself. Great character.
