The Muppets Top 10 Original Songs

The Muppet Show is a family-oriented comedy-variety television series that was produced by puppeteer Jim Henson and features The Muppets

From the Muppet Show, the Muppets went on to have
8 Feature films
2 direct to TV films
8 spin off TV shows
and about 27 TV specials

The 3 most enduring things about The Muppets are
1. The Comedy and jokes
2. The Characters
3. The music

Today I'm going to be looking at the various original songs the Muppets has featured over the years and put together my Top 10 favourites

I also did a sister post in which you can read about the Top 10 Covers here

10. Cabin Fever

From Muppets Treasure Island

When the wind drops, and the Hispaniola begins to drift, the crew go stir crazy out of boredom. The human pirate twosome, Calico Jerry and Easy Pete, are the first to succumb to cabin fever, and the rest of the crew quickly follow suit.

9. I Hope That Something Better Comes Along

From The Muppet Movie

After Miss Piggy apparently abandons Kermit, he goes and drowns his sorrows and finds Rowlf playing on the piano

It's an extremely weird song, The Muppets has always had adult themes running through it but I think this is the most extreme

As Jim Henson normally performed for Rowlf and Kermit, they recorded the duet seperately for each character and then combined it

8. Movin' Right Along

Another one from The Muppet Movie

Kermit and Fozzie have are on the way to Hollywood to make their way in showbusiness

It's a nice and upbeat song

7. The Happiness Hotel

From The Great Muppet Caper

Kermit and Fozzie are identical twin reporters in this, a running gag throughout the whole film (people can only tell them apart if Fozzie wears his hat), they are investigating a theft of valuable jewels from fashion designer Lady Holiday

They travel to London to interview her but on a limited budget they can't afford nice accomodation so end up at the Happiness Hotel which as it turns out is free

6. Man or a Muppet

Walter is the Muppet brother of Gary and they are both massive Muppet fans, which irks Gary's fiance Mary, but she still lets him go on their romantic getaway to see the Muppet studios

When the Muppet studios is in jeopardy of being taken over by an oil barren he misses their important anniversary dinner, so she gives Gary an ultimatum

Meanwhile Walter is going through a crisis of his own, wanting to be around his brother Gary all the time or be accepting of his new Muppet family, the place where he belongs...

5. I'll Get You What You Want (Cockatoo In Malibu)

In The Muppets Most Wanted, they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit except for his green mole, but if he covers it up with green paste Kermits friends can't tell the difference

Constantine gets Kermit framed and whisked away to the Russian Gulag,"The Big House". Meanwhile Constantine is wiling his way into Kermits friends and telling them what they want to hear

As with The Muppets (2013) film the soundtrack was written by Brett McKenzie, one half of Flight of The Conchords and sings in this version of the song

4. Saying Goodbye

From The Muppets Take Manhattan

The Muppets have to break up and go their own seperate ways so that Kermit can write his hit broadway show.

This song shows that although splitting up and saying goodbye to friends can be tough, they will always be in your heart

3. It Feels Like Christmas

From The Muppets Christmas Carol

Featuring the tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge played by Michael Caine, three Ghosts come to visit him to show him the error of his ways

The Ghost of Christmas Present  transports Scrooge around the city, showing him scenes of festivity and also deprivation that are happening as they watch, sprinkling a little warmth into not only the heart of Ebeneezer but of the viewers too

I always like putting on Muppets Christmas Carol when I'm wrapping my Christmas presents to get me into the spirit of the holiday :)

2. I'm Going to Go Back There Someday

Another entry from The Muppet Movie (seriously, that film had some great songs)

The Muppets get stranded in the desert, and as night falls they sit around a campfire. Gonzo recalls his experience flying and expresses his longing to return to the sky in song but it could mean returning to anything that has brought meaning into your life and with that the song really resonates with me

There's also an awesome cover version on the Green Album that you can listen to HERE, I left it out here because I chose to go with the Green Album with the #1 Muppets songs which of course is...

1. The Rainbow Connection

When people think of The Muppets they mainly think of two songs, Mah Nà Mah Nà which is featured in my other Top 10 and The Rainbow Connection

The Rainbow connection has appeared many times over the years in the Muppets films and it first featured in The Muppet Movie, the first feature film back in 1979

This is the version on The Green Album featuring Weezer and Hayley Williams of Paramore

It's a beautiful cover
