Brad's Top 5 - Post Apocalyptic TV Series

So Fallout 4 came out recently and it got me thinking about other Post Apocalyptic stories

These stories are often set after a great Nuclear War, but it could be anything that sets it off

One of the main themes running throughout these stories is that humanity survives and the way we come together after a great tragedy

This time I look at my favourite tv stories

5. Battlestar Galactica

It tells the tale of the last remaining humans of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, after nuclear annihalation by the race they themselves created - The Cylons

The Cylons were created to be the humans servants, but they gained sentience due to their programming and rebelled

Great series, and many twists and turns along the way

4. Star Trek

World War III lasted from 2026 through 2053 in the Star Trek Universe, through nuclear cataclycsm with many of the planet's major cities and governments being destroyed.

A lot of humans realised that they needed to turn over a new leaf, and improve the world
One such person was Zefram Cochrane who ended up creating the first warp drive, which thanks to the Next Gen Enterprise crew, made First Contact with a passing alien species - The Vulcans

This lead to The Federation being formed and a new outlook and mission for the human race
To explore strange new worlds...
To seek out new life; new civilisations...
To boldly go where no one has gone before!

3. Firefly

In this show set in the year 2517, the Earth is constantly referred to as “Earth That Was”, as a large population had emigrated to a new star system after their resources had ran out.

The only two surviving superpowers of the old Earth, the United States and China, fused to form the central federal government, called the Alliance, resulting in the fusion of the two cultures.

In this show it explores the lives of The Serenity crew, who are trying to make a living any way they can in this Old ‘Verse

2. Doctor Who

There have been many post apocalyptic stories in the long running series but nothing stuck with me as much as Turn Left

In this episode Donna visits a fortune teller on an alien world but she is secretly working for an organisation out to destroy the Doctor

Donna was there on one of the Doctors darkest days, when he had just lost Rose Tyler across the rift and was confronted by this woman in the Tardis wearing a wedding dress. She ended up saving the Doctor from drowning after convincing him to leave when he was at his angriest

But in this episode, through the power of the Time Beetle from the Tricksters Parade that attaches itself to Donnas back, she ends up turning right to a different interview instead of showing up where she used to be, creating a whole new pocket universe around her

We get to see past Doctor episodes, like when The Sontarans flooded the Earth with toxic gases, or the Spaceship Titanic nearly landing on Buckingham palace

With the Timelord no longer there to save us though, the world goes to shit pretty quickly, especially when the Titanic ends up nuking London and irradiating half of the UK and things just escalate from there

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together...Mass Hysteria!!!

1. Futurama

In the pilot episode of Futurama, Philip J Fry is delivering pizza on New Years Eve 1999 in New York, where he  ends up in a cryo chamber after being tricked by a prank call (I.C. Weiner LOL)

We then see the destruction of the world several times, through the firepower of an alien race (we find out who actually did it later)

Fry then wakes up in the year 3000, where the series really kicks off
