Feature Friday #3 - Deakin Brook

What got you into art?

I don't think there was a time I was ever not into art.

Who is your favourite character to draw?

Of my own, Shadoko the happiest ninja. Of someone else's ... The Joker maybe.

What do you hate drawing?

Footballs. Nothing to do with the fact that I'm not a football fan, they just seem to defy logic when you try to draw them. Pentagons and hexagons living together on a rounded surface, madness!

Favourite artists?

Alphonse Mucha or H. R. Giger. Very different moods, yet both quite sexual. It probably depends which mood I'm in.

What mediums do you use?

Mostly I work digitally these days, or hand draw and then convert to digital, though I trained in painting.

When you're drawing,  what do you put on in the background?

Japanese rock/pop music.

What's your greatest achievement?

Getting my artwork published. I typed my name into Amazon the other day to get a link to one of my books, and it was pleasing to see the books I've worked on all lined up there.

What would you say to any aspiring artists?

Make art primarily for yourself, then whether you make a living out of it or not you will be happy with the work you've created.

Do you have any projects lined up?

I've had a couple of books out recently that aim to help kids utilise their memories more effectively, and there's more of that in the pipeline.

Marvel or DC?

Marvel for the heroes, DC for the Villains.

Chocolate or vanilla?

Chocolate. Though I had a hot chocolate with vanilla in it today, so why choose.

Captain America or Iron Man?

Cap. Iron Man's actions have led to so much trouble he could practically be considered a villain.

Finally if you could take any character and draw them in a new comic ,  who would it be and who would you choose to write it?

Hmm, okay... I'll take Beta Ray Bill, with the writing talents of the multi skilled John-Paul Bove
