What Are The Geek Mash Crew Playing/Watching? # 5

Casey

Watching wise I did the same as last time but with the newest episodes, Game of Thrones this week I found to be best episode so far in this season and had some big revelations for some characters. On the other hand, Fear the Walking Dead this week was very slow and not that interesting. I'm hoping that this will change and go back to being a great thrilling series but we will see in the weeks to come.

Gaming since the last blog I started and finished Uncharted 4: The Thief's End. I was so excited to finally get my hands on Uncharted 4 as I'm huge fan of the series and I'm glad to say it did not disappoint. Not only that, it is the best in the series and one of my favourite games of all time. Everything just felt so spot on; the pacing, the graphics, story, characters and even the ending was perfect to end the series. If you've got a PS4, then this is the best game to play on the system or to show off what the system really can do.

I only played a few other things. I got little further in Dark Souls 3. I'm still loving it and the feeling each time you finish a boss is so good. Also, I bought Unravel as it was on sale this week. It's a very charming platformer and I'm looking forward to putting more hours into it.

Also, I played a few hours of  a variety online games - Star Wars: Battlefront, Uncharted 4 multiplayer and Rainbow Six: Siege, which is still very addictive.

Watching

I decided to rewatch the X-Men films when they have been showing on Film 4, as the new film Apocalypse is out.

The first one in the series, plainly titles X-Men still stands up today, with some great character moments from everyone and good action all around. It is still pretty lame with the whole Senator Kelly turning into a blob, Halle Berry's accent and the whole "What happens to a Toad when it gets struck by lightning", but that last part was from an abandoned plotline of how Toad was meant to be a better character but the film felt over bloated.

I give it 4 out of 6 Snikts.

Next up X-Men Origins - Wolverine

Because we didn't get the whole story in X-Men 2 (Or X-Men United in the States), Fox decided to revisit the story of how Logan REALLY got his Adamantium whilst screwing over some of our beloved characters in the meantime. The opening starts off pretty cool, with a young James Howlett popping his claws for the first tie and in the cinema I remember thinking this is gonna be grand, they're gonna do the Wolverine Origins comic but it's over in five minutes! There are some pretty cool moments in here, like the opening montage of Wolverine and Sabretooth over the years, the whole scene with Ryan Reynolds with swords, I even like the fight scene at the end between NOTDeadpool and the two lycanthope like dudes. They just messed up a lot.

The CGI looks completely out of place with Wolvies claws and an uncanny valley Charles Xavier at the end. I also completely forgot that this film had Gambit in it which goes to show just how awful this is if even me, a guy up on his factoids and film trivia can forget which X-Men character was featured in a film.

I give it 1 out of 6 Snikts (The middle claw on the right hand).

Lastly, I watched X-Men First Class. Now this is a film with a lot of great moments in it. We see the same bit with Magneto at the beginning using his powers for the first time in Auswitchz but then an extension of that, with Kevin Bacon wanting to see his ability, and Magnetos revenge throughout the film in retaliation of what happened to him. The montage scene with Xavier and Magneto finding other mutants is fun and likes to make fun of itself and the characters they end up with are a good mix.

Downsides? They completely wasted the character and powers of Darwin, he could have had potential. We don't get to see much of Azazael on the opposing side either. Plus this being a prequel there were lots of lines foreshadowing what was gonna happen later on. Not really needed if you've seen the film, they're just kind of putting it in as a joke.

I give it 4 out of 6 Snikts (On par with the first I'd say).

Playing

I recently decided to play Skyrim again whilst being off work and having to find things to fill my time with.

Only thing that really pisses me off about it is it's vanilla Skyrim. I had a laptop that was able to run this with tons of mods like Legend of Zelda music in the background, better graphics, new spells, new locations but most importantly was the no carrying restrictions. This is the thing that annoyed me the most with the game originally.

Sadly the laptop broke, so on a basic lappy now so bought the game on the X-Box 360 for £4

I'm playing as a Khajit, one of the cat warrior races in the game and I'm going all out melee with no weapons. Khajit have a bonus on attacks with their claws and that stacks with another bonus from gloves of the pugilist that you can enchant bracers and rings with (I can't yet, I need to fill up some soul gems), and that stacks again with a heavy armour perk. So later on when I'm gonna be making dwarven and better heavy armour I'm gonna be a punching maniac.

This is not my idea though, I've been wanting to try out the stuff in this Robbaz vid for a while.

I've not been playing much this week (been reading and watching things more), but I've continued on with my play through of The Wolf Among Us. Once I finish the next two episodes, I'd have finished the Telltale bundle I bought on the PS4. My next games are completing Rise of the Tomb Raider, as well as playing through the Uncharted collection...for the first time ever!

As for watching, I've been catching Game of Thrones and Fear the Walking Dead. I've never watched all of Friends, so I've been watching this through from the beginning at the moment (currently watching an episode as I'm typing this). I've been working through a few films too. Me and Casey watched Pleasantville and The Book Thief this week. Both good films, although The Book Thief gets a bit cheesy at the end. It's not necessarily a criticism though, I enjoyed it.
