MCM London Comic Con Report October 2016 - NEIL

The MCM London Comic Con ran this weekend 28th-30th of October.
I went on Saturday and it was bursting full of stalls, cosplay and people!

What were you most looking forward to?

I've never been to MCM on a Saturday before so I was very interested to see whether the show would have a different vibe on a Saturday.
It was different – it was a lot busier.
Other than this I was just excited to get to walk around and experience the show and possibly attend a meet up.

First impressions of the show?

I feel like I say this after every MCM show I go to but it was a lot larger this time around than I have ever seen it before. Two full halls packed with things to see and do.
As well as this it got really busy in the afternoon so it became difficult to get around quickly.

Did you meet anyone there? Celebs, artists, writers?

Yes, I met Laura Kate Dale. A video game journalist for the site Let's Play Video Games. She also has a YouTube channel and is on quite a few podcasts.
She was really nice and I got to chat with her and a few other fans at her meet up.

Favourite Cosplay?

As always there were a lot of very good costumes at this years event.
However, I think my favourite was a lady who dressed as Barb from Stranger Things holding a sign saying "Have you seen me?"

It's not just that I loved the character in the TV show but the sign was really tongue in cheek and just tickled me in all the right ways.
It's also one of the best representations of the character I saw at the show.

Favourite thing you bought?

I bought a few things this year and spent a bit more money than I did last year.
I think that my favourite thing I bought was a plush rabbit from Fuzzballs.
With only 15 of each fuzzy plush I managed to get my hands on the last one they had left. It's so cute!

Was there something you wished you bought but didn't?

The simple answer to this is no. There wasn't anything I wanted that I didn't buy. I only went in with the expectations of buying one thing and that was the spherical rabbit.

Go to any booths at the show? Try any games?

I only got to play one game at this MCM and that was Unbox – a local multiplayer game about boxes bouncing around and trying to destroy each other.
I played with Brad and 2 other people who I didn't know. It was really fun to play but I often find with these local multiplayer games that I probably wouldn't get the chance to play them at home.

Was there anything you wanted to try but missed?

There was another game that I would have liked to try called Snake Pass which looks very interesting. It's a platforming game where you play as a snake slithering around.
It looked quite unique as there's no jump button and you have to snake your way around obsticles.

Anything you wish was there?

I can't think of anything physical that wasn't there that I thought really needed to be there.
However, having so many people in one small area meant that there really wasn't a lot of phone signal going around so organising meetings was often difficult.

Anything you tried this time you haven't normally at past MCM's?

This was the first MCM where I went to a fan meet up. This was also the first MCM where I mostly walked the show floor on my own.
Since most of the team went on Friday they had already walked around most of the show and I ocaisionally met up with them when we could get the phones working.
I found that since it was so busy during the day that it was a lot easier and quicker to move around the show floor on my own. I was able to wander at my leisure and stop at the places where I wanted to stop but move past anything that I didn't.
I do like wandering the show as a group but when gets really busy I think it's better to strike out in smaller groups or on my own.

Favourite moment of the show?

Meeting Laura was a massive highlight of the day for me. I really enjoy the work she does so getting a chance to see her in person was amazing for me.

What would you cosplay as at future shows given the chance?

I find that thinking of cosplay ideas for me can be really difficult. Trying to think of a character I actually like that would suit my body type is just something that I can never pin down.
Also since I've never cosplayed before it would need to be a fairly simple costume to make.
Ah well, there's always male Misty…
